US research firm sues three cell phone makers over Bluetooth

Nokia, Samsung, and Panasonic are under litigation by the Washington Research Foundation following allegations of patent infringement in the use of wireless Bluetooth technology.

The according to Forbes.com, the case was filed in U.S. District Court against Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. of Japan, Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea and Nokia Corp. of Finland by the Washington Research Institute, a nonprofit group that seeks commercial uses for patented technology developed at the state's public universities and enforces the patents.

i used to have a Nokia now i have a Sony Ericsson and without Bluetooth i would hate my phone i love Bluetooth and all the songs i get for my mates!!!

what about verizon.. they drive me crazy.. i've had a contract with them since 2000. I can never get out of the contract bc every time i make a change.. new phone. diff. plan my contract is extended another two years. grrrr.

it seems like just when you thought it was safe to talk on the cell phone, people have to go back and get sued..wonder what impact it will have on the people who have those cell phone

If this lawsuit is allowed or the plaintiffs are ruled in favor of, will cell phone makers have to stop including blue tooth?
